When to Use Mil Spec Coatings

Various coatings have been develop by coating manufacturers, then tested to government standards for thousands of military and defense applications and products. These are often required to minimize field service issues and longevity related to chemical, corrosion, wear resistance or other harsh environment problems. These set of standards comprise what is often referred to as MIL Spec coatings. The specifications are comprised of both procedures and specialty coatings ranging from dry films; to plating; to spray paints; to powder coatings. Part prints, used for manufacturing of government products include various MIL Spec requirement numbers.

CARC Coatings

One of the most common coating required by the military are referred to as CARC coatings. These coatings are a polyurethane coating that provides superior durability, extends service life for military vehicles and equipment, provides surfaces with exceptional resistance to chemical warfare agent penetration and greatly simplifies decontamination.
